Support Onnissia in Her Artist Residency!

Anyone can redeem a SEED to make a Request for Help on behalf of themselves, or on behalf of individuals and groups they want to support. A SEED was redeemed on Onnissia’s behalf to make the following request. Here it is in her own words, with slight editing for clarity:

“My name is Onnissia (sounds like Oh-nee-see-yuh) and I've made the decision to focus on solely making art after a series of life-changing circumstances and deep inspiration to expand my body of work, but I need your help! Great bodies of work are rarely brought to fruition without outside community support, so I'd I'd like to invite you on this journey with me.

Historically, art patrons were wealthy members of "high society", but anyone can be a patron of the arts by supporting the creators and artists that they believe in. A community using mutual aid to uplift the voice of a Black woman artist disrupting a predominantly White and male-dominated industry is far more kick ass in my opinion. So, I'm here to humbly ask those who believe in me for the gift of a community-funded artist residency. I've already raised $1300 out of $5k via Go Fund Me. I'm asking Seeds to help me reach that goal with $2K. These funds will pay for my studio rent, equipment, quality materials, open studio events, and a marketing budget.

The goal

1. To be in my studio from sun-up to sun down making work about collective liberation and how the key to unlocking it exists at the intersection of Afro-futurism & Femme sexuality.

2. To create revolutionary work around social justice issues that engages and drives the community to action.

3. To make art that disrupts space.

Onnissia also recorded a ~60 second video describing her need.

$2,000 was reached on January 30th, 2023, fulfilling 100% of the goal. Thank you so much!
